It seems I'm a blog slacker of sorts.  It's not that there isn't anything to talk about.  In fact, in a center as busy as ours, there's always some story to tell.  I guess I just want to be certain that what I have to say is something you would be interested in.  I think I've found someting that fits the bill - our new BRAIN GYM!  What is it you ask?  Ok, here's my infomercial sales pitch - ready?  "How many times have you heard about the importance of fitness?  My guess is it would probably be more than you'd care to -- but what if I told you there was a way to become more fit without breaking sweat.  What if I could guarantee you'd have the best time doing it or your money back?"  That's enough, I'm not a big fan of infomercials.  First, I'm not Billy Mayes and second, there's no charge to belong to our Brain Gym!  This new program is filled with games and activities that have been specifically designed to stimulate your cognitive abilities.  Whether you're 10 or 110 this progam is for you!  It is available free of charge and classes are available.  Don't miss out on this opportunity to see something spectacular.  You have nothing to lose and EVERYTHING to gain!

Settling into our new home

It's been a few months since we've moved over to our new location.  No matter where I go these days I'm asked the same question over and over:   How do you like your new center?  The answer is I couldn't be more pleased that we're all in a safer environment.  That's not to say we haven't had a few setbacks here and there.  The truth is this has all been quite an experience.  Those of you who frequent our new home know first hand what I'm talking about.  Although I know things haven't gone as smoothly as many of would like, I assure you we ARE getting there!  As is the case with any new construction/renovation, a period of adjustment is to be expected.  Through the summer months we struggled to get a handle on temperature control as we manouvered our way through our new air conditioning system.  More recently we've experienced the chill in the air and so once again we'll go through a period of adjustment as we try to master techniques to get the most out of our heating system.  I felt it was important to mention so that you can find comfort in the fact that we won't stop working on it until we get it just right!  Anything mechanical requires a certain amount of "tweeking" before it's full benefit can be appreciated. I want to thank everyone for their patience during this time.  Things may not always go smoothly but when we work together, there's nothing we can't accomplish!  See you soon!

Swansea's Seniors - A New Beginning

Where do I begin?  I'm Laurie Pimentel, the Executive Director of the Swansea Council on Aging.  On July 14, 2009, we opened the doors to our new Center.  It's been quite an experience.  Anyone who has visited the center over the past few weeks knows we've had our fair share of challenges but I'm happy to say we're working our way through it.  Thanks to EVERYONE for their patience and understanding as we continue to work through all the glitches and get settled into our new home.

Fitness programs are well underway at our new home.  I'm pleased to say that we've found a great blend of your favorites and added some new things as well.  Be sure to click on the "Fitness Programs" link for detailed information on all our programs.

Zumba!  Wednesdays - 10:00 - 11:00 AM

All I can say is WOW!!!!!  I've never seen Zumba Fitness before and ever since I have I can't help but wonder about one thing....What took so long?  This is the newest fitness program to our center.  I could not be more pleased with the results.  Our instructor is Serena Honeycutt and she's a little sneaky!!!   I'm not sure how she's done it but she's accomplished the impossible.  She actually makes you forget your exercising!!  Great Job Serena!!  Sadly, I can't give Serena all the credit for this week's success.  This group of particpants came to a class not knowing what was in store for them, as many had never heard of Zumba.  They didn't mess around.  They were clearly having so much fun that my staff actually had to stop working to see what all the fuss was about.  OK - I admit it.  I had to stop and check it out for myself.  Curious?  Here's a little peek.

After class, I had an opportunity to speak to some particpants and their excitement was infectious!  I've now been asked to consider adding an additional evening class.  If you or anyone you know may be interested in an evening class, I encourage you to call me so that I can make the arrangements.  Meanwhile, don't let this opportunity pass you by.  Come by and Zumbaaaaaa!!!!  You'll be "Dancing With the Stars".

Oh how could I forget?  Be sure to click on the "Videos" and "Photo Gallery" links for a sneak peak of all the fun you missed this week.  Don't worry, you still have time to join the party!!
